Persian Naeen Rugs
From the central plateau of Iran hails the beautiful rugs of Naeen, in the province of Isfahan. A relatively new industry in the city, rug production in Naeen is only about a century old. Naeen was originally a centre for cloth production, particularly wool clothing. Over the years, demand gradually declined for cloth production and in an attempt to save the economy, rug production was introduced with much success. Today, Naeen, or Nain, is famous for fine rugs that are crafted using traditional Persian knots that are asymmetrical. With a cotton base, the pile may be of wool alone or combined with silk to highlight specific parts of the design. High quality Nain rugs can be made entirely out of silk, but these are rare.

Like most Persian rugs, Nain rugs have a border that encases elaborate floral motifs surrounding a central medallion. They can come in a variety of sizes, from "doormat" to over 10'x18'. Colours that are typically used are ivory, blue and beige.
