Persian Mood Rugs
Fine quality rugs hailing from the province of Khorasan are called Mood (also spelled Mud). Mood rugs are distributed through the capital of Khorasan, Mashad.
Mood rugs are famous for being handmade by master craftsman using traditional Persian knots with a cotton base and a lush thick wool pile. Designs are curvilinear and there may also feature a central medallion typically in the shape of a sunflower. Patterns are dominated by small fish and clusters of leaves (known as boteh).
The dyes used are typically combinations of cooler colours like blue and red, or earth tones such as brown, beige, and ivory and blue. The background of Mud rugs is generally reddish. Sizes vary, but are limited to up to 6'x10'.
