Persian Khashan Rugs
Khashan rugs originated in the city of Khashan, located in the Isfahan Province of Iran. This city in the north central area of the country is famous for the manufacturing of rugs, silk and other textiles. While originally, clothing production dominated, rug production became more popular from the late 19th century onwards. In fact, today the city has one of the highest concentrations of rug factories in Iran.
Constructed using traditional Persian knots, Khashan rugs boast distinctive patterns that are prized for their curvilinearity. Most Khashan rugs are in colours such as ivory, red and brown and feature a central medallion surrounded by floral or leaf motifs with an average sized border. Atypical designs include scenes of nature and animals, however floral motifs still dominate. They are normally composed of a cotton base with a lush soft wool pile that may also have silk threads. Some may also be crafted out of pure silk.

Khashan rugs are available in a variety of sizes. They remain as one of the most popular rugs in the world.
